Privacy Policy

What data we collect, why, and how to request its removal.

Who we are

Plainly.ie is a free Irish tax transparency tool for PAYE employees. It is operated as a personal project. For data-related queries, contact hello@plainly.ie.

What we collect and why

Calculator and refund wizard inputs: salary, expenses, and other figures you enter are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers or stored anywhere.

Refund guide email: if you request your personalised refund guide, we collect your email address to send it. Your email is passed to Resend (our email delivery provider) for this purpose only. We do not store it ourselves unless you also opt in to updates (see below).

Email updates (opt-in): if you tick the "Keep me updated" box when requesting your guide, your email address is saved so we can send occasional Plainly news. This is entirely optional and separate from receiving your guide.

Analytics: we use PostHog to collect anonymous usage data, including pages visited, wizard step completions, and button clicks. No personally identifiable information is collected. PostHog is configured in cookieless mode and does not create advertising profiles.

Legal basis

We process email addresses on the basis of consent. You provide your address voluntarily to receive a specific communication, or tick a box to opt in to updates. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing hello@plainly.ie.

Who we share data with

We use the following third-party processors:

  • Resend: email delivery. Your address is used to send your refund guide. Resend's privacy policy applies.
  • Supabase: database hosting (EU region). Stores opted-in subscriber emails.
  • PostHog: privacy-friendly analytics (EU region). Collects anonymous usage events. No cookies. PostHog's privacy policy applies.
  • Vercel: website hosting. Processes standard server logs (IP address, browser type) for a short period as part of normal operation.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other party.

Cookies and tracking

Plainly.ie does not use advertising cookies or tracking for commercial purposes. We use PostHog in cookieless mode for anonymous product analytics. Vercel may set strictly necessary cookies for routing and performance. Neither requires consent under Irish data protection law.

How long we keep your data

Opted-in subscriber emails are kept until you ask us to remove them. Refund guide emails processed by Resend are subject to Resend's own retention policy. Anonymous analytics data in PostHog is retained per PostHog's standard policy.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@plainly.ie and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission.
